As a long-time fan of the Head Horse Club, I really have a soft spot for this organization. Not only have I met all kinds of great people in it, but the guys in it have introduced me to all kinds of programs. Going to several clubs every week is physically and mentally pleasurable. When I participate in club activities, I am required to participate in impromptu speeches every week, and I have to do prepared speeches on a regular basis. There were also other sister clubs that would invite me to various annual meetings, birthday parties, anniversaries, and other events. From time to time, I tear my face acting sketches, all kinds of release the body to do stand-up comedy, acting comedy, in order to make everyone laugh, what tricks are used, but also created a "shameless" "not afraid of shame" of the invaluable revolutionary spirit.
I was just having fun, but gradually I realized that my language skills are improving. For example, today's meeting is a training conference for more than a hundred people specializing in hotel interior design, which is already abstract and difficult to understand, not to mention translate, and there are various concepts, which actually requires a high level of language.
I would personally go through all the scripts that our company did before to make sure that they were smooth and looked good. Once our company bid for a project of an American company, my colleague from the University of Hong Kong and I had to go over a 500-word test translation for half a day, and I asked him to change everything that could be changed into idioms, so we succeeded in winning the project.
I have also been telling my students that when translating from English to Chinese, the language must be exquisite and idioms should be used when they can be used, such as today's "each expressing his own views, complementing each other, reflecting each other's views, shading the green trees, the lover's eye brings out the Western Shih Shui...". There are also more graphic such as "food", more humorous such as "you can ask me, but not touch me", "I stay away from you, afraid that you hit me". These look like no difficulty, you go to the scene to try, the scene of the temporary reaction, see if you can get out of the mouth?
The interpreter is required to follow the speaker's train of thought and express himself fluently, the language is required to be precise, the concepts are required to be clear, the image is required to use beautiful words, the interaction is required to be easy, natural and fluent, and the humor of the speaker must be reflected, there must be laughter where there should be laughter, and there must be an atmosphere when there should be applause.
In the Head Horse Club, you can easily realize the language improvement, such as unexpected situations will be emergency treatment, participate in competitions, and a field of more than a hundred people do not have stage fright, and it really provides great help to our language workers.
Today the participants asked the teacher, " With the development of artificial intelligence and everyone chasing efficiency, will the need for those beautiful designs keep diminishing or even disappear into thin air?" The teacher said, "We are flesh and blood human beings, I hope we won't see that in our lifetime."
I sometimes lament what they say one day the translators were replaced, really made me sad for a few days, I found today that this kind of emotional interaction, need to go through the brain processing of high-level language activities is actually difficult to be replaced.
